History of Polonia SC

Polonia Soccer Club was established in 1985 by Joe Kostek at St.John's Cantius Fraternal Aid Society located at 770 Mountain Ave. in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. At that time the name of the club was St.Andrews which consisted of mostly Polish immigrants that wanted to play soccer. The team was in the first division part of the Manitoba Central Soccer League.

The team got promoted to the Premier division for the 1987 season and the team finished second from the bottom in the standings, however they were not relegated because the Premiere division was realigned due to the formation of Super Soccer Alliance. The 1988 season consisted of 14 teams in the division including new renamed Polonia Soccer Club. The team finished fifth in standings with a record of 15 wins, 7 loses and 4 ties. The team finished even better in 1989 with a record of 14 wins, 5 loses and 1 tie which placed them in third place out of 12 teams.

In 1990 the management decided to buy out Micalense club from Super Soccer Alliance league and managed to finish at the middle of the table out of 11 teams. The next season (1991) once again Polonia finished in the middle of the table. In 1994 some of the Polonia players started to leave and play for another Polish club in Winnipeg, Sokol. New players had to fulfill the roles of players who left and they did as Polonia finished second in standings with a 7-3-4 record.

The team became provincial MSA Cup champions in 1995 which took them to a fourth place finish at the nationals. At the end of the season many of the players left to play for other teams in the league and Polonia team folded. In the year 2002 White Eagles renamed the team to Polonia Soccer Club and the team was born again. Today, Polonia Soccer Club is the only Polish club remaining in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
